Applications

• Hairy roots, using the RMB in a process specifically developed by ROOTec, produce bioactive compounds (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), Starting Materials, active mixtures).


• Hairy root cultures are an efficient biologic system for molecular pharming, the production of recombinant proteins.
  
  The system is in a confined environment. As opposed to mammalian cell cultures, the plant system minimizes the risk of accidental virus or prion disease transmission to humans or livestock.


• Biotransformations: the biochemical potential of a given hairy root culture can be used to produce a derivative of a chemical entity supplied in the medium.
